This is a traditional granny square. Different color combinations makes it more elegant and beautiful. A single color square shows simplicity and looks graceful too. This square can be made with any type of yarn and appropriate hook size. while crocheting this square in multicolor, make sure that two different yarns used are made with the same fabric or compatible with each other.

This classic granny square has a very easy pattern. A tutorial is given below with diagram. Using the same pattern, this square can be made as much large as we want. I have created this diagram in Illustrator.

Chain = ch
Double Crochet = dc
Slip Stitch = ss

4 ch, ss into first ch to form a ring.
Round 1: 3 ch, 2 dc, in the ring,
* 1 ch, 3dc in the same ring*
rep from * to * for 2 more times,
1 ch, join with ss in first ch 3 space , fasten off.
Join new color in any ch 1 space.
Round 2: 3 ch, 2 dc in ch 1 space,
*1 ch, 3 dc, 3ch, 3dc in next ch 1 space *
rep from * to * for 2 more times,
1 ch, 3 dc next ch 1 space, join with ss in first ch 3 space, fasten off.
Join new color in any ch 3 space.
Round 3: 3 ch, 2 dc in ch 3 space,
*1 ch, 3 dc in next ch 1 space, 1 ch, 3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc in next ch 3 space*
rep from * to * for 2 more times,
1 ch, 3 dc in next ch 1 space, 1 ch

join with ss in first ch 3 space, fasten off.
Join new color in any ch 3 space.
Round 4: 3 ch, 2 dc in ch 3 space,

Tips:
1. 3dc-dch-3dc combination in ch 3 space creates a corner in every round
2. Ch 1 space can be increased as Ch 2.
3. Do not fasten off after every round while crocheting Classic Granny Square in single color. Just add ss till you reach any ch space where you can begin with a new row.
